How to renew your Emirates ID

Fees and procedures change without notice. Before you act on anything below, confirm it at the ICP, which is the authority that actually handles this.

The short version

• Where: The ICP app or website, or an accredited typing centre.
• Cost: AED 100 per year of validity, plus AED 40 to 70 in service fees depending on where you file.
• Takes: 3 to 7 working days.
• If you are late: AED 20 a day, capped at AED 1,000.
• Valid for: The same period as your residence visa.

The steps

1. Check whether yours is bundled with your residence visa renewal. Most are, and doing it twice wastes a fee.
2. Apply within 30 days of expiry. The fine starts after that window, not on the expiry date itself.
3. Complete biometrics at an ICP centre if you are asked to. Not everyone is.
4. Collect the card from the designated post office, or choose delivery.

The part people get wrong

The 30 day window is a grace period, not an extension. The fine is AED 20 for every day past it and it is capped at AED 1,000, which means fifty days of not noticing costs you the cap. That is the entire reason this app exists.

The other common mistake is renewing the Emirates ID separately when the residence visa renewal already includes it. Check first.
